A record of the campaign as it happened, from the first roof repairs to the final total.
The Campaign concluded in 2023. All in we raised $475,000 in donations and pledges. But 265 Prospect wants to be “On your List!” The needs of this old house continue. There are still windows that need to be replaced, sidewalks to be redone, and kitchen renovations. So please think of the Kappa House on Prospect when you do your annual donations and send along a check to the house. Just as you consider WVU, KKG, your church, local philanthropies, etc., please add 265 Prospect to your list! The same address applies under the donation address and button.
We are wrapping up the campaign. We have raised $473,113 of our goal. We can still accept your donation! There is much work to be done at 265 Prospect! We will soon announce the final total and the path going forward from here. Thank you all!
The campaign will end in two weeks! Won’t you please help push us over the top. We have only $46,137 to go! Since the celebration, we have raised almost $75,000. We can do this Kappas!
The Celebration was a wonderful weekend. The celebration video, “Mountaineers Go First and So Do Kappas!”, captured the spirit of the Reunion and Celebration.
Know Before You Go! Final details for the Oct 21–23 Celebration.
We are happy to announce our Campaign Celebration and Reunion October 21–23, 2022 in Morgantown. Check the Reunion tab above for information, reservations and updates. There is also still time and a need to donate!
To date we have received $355,528 in pledges and donations from 317 sisters. We are also proud that 105 of those donations are included in the Perk Club — members who have donated $1,000 or more. We are also honored to include the Morgantown and Charleston Alumnae Associations in the Perk Club. They have always been there for the chapter.
The Campaign has begun its final year and will end in 2022. To date we have received $327,003 in pledges and donations from 300 sisters of our $500,000 goal.
We are so thankful that from the donations we received in the spring, we were finally able to secure the floor joists below the second floor showers and toilets, replace the showers, sinks and floor in that bathroom, make final repairs to the dining room ceiling and renovate the powder room.
At Founders Day we announced the dedication of the new dining room and its renovations donated by sisters Cecilia Hamrick Wehrle BY ’73, Karen Hamrick Miller BY ’75 and her daughter, Jessica J. Miller BY ’13. The gift by these ladies is the largest gift so far to the Kappa House on Prospect Capital Campaign. Additionally, Jessica’s gift to this group gift makes her the youngest member to join 86 other alumnae so far in the “Perk” Club — alumnae who have donated at least $1,000 to the Capital Campaign.
We are still well short of our goal of $500,000. There are 30 windows that still need to be replaced; the staff kitchen needs a new commercial refrigerator and stove and the carpet upstairs in the hallways and girls’ rooms is desperately in need of replacement.
The chapter opened for the fall semester and went home safely for Thanksgiving after being the only Greek house so far to have no Covid-19 cases in the house. Hats off to the house girls, Rikki Huffman, House Director, and the Beta Upsilon House Board for their plan and safe management of the house through this pandemic. Rikki Huffman is one of the first alumnae to be initiated under KKG’s new alumna initiation policy and our first House Director to be a Kappa!
The University has announced that classes will resume in August on campus, although in a very different way. The Kappa house, too, will open, and the House Board is currently working to adopt the COVID-19 changes to house operations. There will likely be many changes for both the house girls and the entire chapter as they adjust to this “new normal.” Based on a number of circumstances related to the pandemic and its restrictions, as well as a shortfall in fundraising, the House Board was not able to begin the repairs to the 2nd floor bathrooms and the dining room and must postpone this last major capital project until next summer.
Since February, we have received 61 gifts for a total of $26,215. This brings our campaign total to $266,633. We have 250 total donors with 26 new donors and 35 returning donors from the February drive. Our spring campaign has fallen short of our immediate $50,000 challenge. With 18 months left to go in the campaign, we need to raise $235,000 to meet our campaign goal of $500,000. With only 250 donors, we must involve more of our 1,700 plus alumnae.
Instead of heading out on spring break, WVU and the Kappas left for the semester due to the Corona Virus. They have not returned to get their belongings. Fundraising is at $255,213 including $40,400 in outstanding pledges. We immediately still need $25,000 in cash donations to complete the bathroom repairs now. 245 donors have given to the campaign.
The roof was completed in time for Fall ’19 move-in. Now we have three months to raise about $50,000 so we can finally finish the plumbing repairs that were started three years ago. Please join us. The campaign has collected $232,588 in pledges and donations from 217 donors. $39,800 remain in pledges outstanding. Our goal is $500,000. Please help us reach that goal!
The new roof and windows on the Kappa House are almost done! With the scaffolding already in place for the roof, dormer repairs were made and windows in poor condition were replaced. The house improvements will be done just in time for move in day in a few weeks. Unfortunately, we did not raise enough money in time to replace the second-floor showers and the dining room ceiling. This is a repair that must be done during the summer in an empty house. With continued donations, these major projects could be scheduled for summer 2020. The House Board has a full plan of prioritized capital improvements they regularly review. As with any house, sometimes those priorities change as it did with the roof and windows based on immediate needs.
Kappa House on Prospect Capital Campaign Update: To our goal of $500,000, we have raised $171,200 from 193 donors or 11% of nearly 1,700 alumnae. Thank you to our wonderful donors! Please donate and donate again!
We began 2019 having raised $93,123. Since announcing the Kappa House on Prospect Capital Campaign in February, we have raised about $60,000 from 75 new donors and 25 repeat donors for a total of about $154,000 from 184 donors. With our goal of $500,000 and 1,500 members, we have a long way to go but the good news is that we have enough money to put a much-needed new roof on the Kappa House. Destruction of the old roof began at the end of May. The old roof will be stripped down to the plywood; dormers will be rebuilt due to decay and any other repairs made before the new warranted 30-year roof is installed.
Our Mission at the Kappa House on Prospect
The Beta Upsilon House Board exists to provide a safe and gracious home to Kappa Kappa Gammas at West Virginia University and to maintain the physical representation of what Kappa Kappa Gamma has stood for at West Virginia University for 114 years.
Our goal is to ensure that Beta Upsilon Chapter is able to continue its leadership at WVU by maintaining a fine standard of housing for its membership into the future. We will do this by rebuilding the “war chest” we had prior to the major 2016 renovations so we may support the increased maintenance needs of the aging Kappa House on Prospect. Achieving this campaign goal of $500,000 will allow us to plan capital improvements and maintenance, as well as to be prepared when emergencies arise. It will also be used to retire debt.
We must maintain and upgrade our historic house; balancing the preservation of history while maximizing safety in a very different world than when we lived in this beautiful home. We must also include high-tech features and benefits never even dreamed possible 80 years ago to provide a meaningful living environment for our collegiate sisters, a sanctuary for their academic nourishment and a positive place to attract the next generation of Beta Upsilons.
